As an After-School Program Facilitator, you will lead a team of seventh and eighth graders through exciting math activities twice each week. As a mentor to our students, you will help them develop the crucial study skills they need to succeed in high school.

Training: It is required that volunteers attend an orientation. Fall semester training dates are September 19 and 22, 2016.

Qualifications: Must be a current high school student (at least sophomore) or college student. All academic backgrounds are welcome to apply. Prior tutoring, community service, and/or leadership experience are highly preferred. Must demonstrate personal commitment to academic excellence and enjoy working with youth.

Our student population: Motivated seventh and eighth grade students from schools in San Jose Unified and Franklin-McKinley School Districts. 

Commitment: All candidates must be able to commit to four hours per week (approximately 36 hours per semester), corresponding to one of the follow sessions:

  • Shirakawa Elementary School, 665 Wool Creek Drive, San Jose, CA (Franklin McKinley Site)
    • Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 - 6:30 pm OR
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 - 6:30 pm
  • Hoover Middle School, 1635 Park Ave, San Jose, CA (San Jose Unified Site)
    • Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 - 6:30 pm OR
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 - 6:30 pm

Program Dates: Fall semester programming runs from September 26 - November 17, 2016.
