BSV is currently seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to serve as Executive Director, holding primary responsibility for leadership of all aspects of the organization. The Executive Director will have the opportunity to build on a strong base of success, characterized by a history of year over year growth that has seen the organizational budget triple within the past four years while demonstrating strong programmatic results. Leading a dedicated team of 13 permanent, year-round staff members as well as approximately 70 seasonal Teaching Fellows, the Executive Director will guide the organization’s continued expansion, thoughtfully building on existing community relationships and strong investor support. With a detailed strategic plan in place and the opportunity to expand BSV’s impact in the City of San Jose, this is an exciting opportunity for a charismatic leader to steward a successful organization into its next stage of growth.

As Operations Associate, you play a critical role creating and implementing processes and systems for Breakthrough Silicon Valley’s continued success and growth. You love creating checklists, organizing systems and people, identifying promising new solutions to solve internal problems or take advantage of new opportunities, and uncovering ways to maximize the time and potential of our small, yet mighty team. You are a clear communicator, both in written and verbal communications. You are eager to learn from those around you, quick to lend a hand to help out a teammate, and excel at meeting deadlines while managing multiple projects at once.

We are seeking highly effective professional teachers to serve as Instructional Coaches (ICs) for summer 2017. ICs are at the core of our summer program and play a crucial role by training, supervising, and supporting BSV teaching fellows in becoming effective instructors and leaders. ICs observe, articulate, refine, and improve the techniques of aspiring teachers in a collaborative environment, and as a result, get the opportunity to reflect upon and evaluate their own pedagogical practices. Rather than teaching students directly, ICs oversee lesson and unit plan development and execution, classroom management, and student interactions for our summer teaching fellows. They mentor and guide our teaching fellows over the course of the summer providing ongoing formal and informal feedback on each teacher’s performance. Furthermore, ICs have a unique opportunity to shape the professional path of tomorrow’s educators.
During the summer, our teaching fellows instruct a core academic subject (literature, writing, math or science) and an elective course of their choice. As subject area experts, ICs help our teaching fellows transform their passion into rigorous and engaging lessons. BSV also implements a specific teacher training sequence, known as BIT (Breakthrough Instruction Trainings), which includes best research-based practices.
Qualifications of Ideal Candidates:
- At least two years of professional teaching in English, math, or science at the upper-elementary or secondary level. Graduate degree in education or subject area is a plus.
- Demonstrated track record of improving student achievement.
- Knowledge of direct instruction, classroom management and inquiry-based learning.
- Experience in planning and/or executing professional development opportunities for teachers.
- Experience with training, supervising, or coaching personnel is preferred.
Program Dates: June 19 – August 9, 2017
Daily Time Commitment: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with early dismissal on Wednesdays)
